Our Stained Glass Windows – By Billie Dibble

It is often difficult to find information in print about women who lived during the early part of the twentieth century. Mrs. Emily Taylor whose name appears on one of our stained glass windows is an exception. We find that she came to Westfield when she was only a few months old. She was born in Clinton, NY, on September 3, 1832. In 1853 she married Harvey M. Taylor, who died nine years later. To them were born five children, one of whom was Mrs. J. A. MacDonald who was the mother of Bessie MacDonald.. Many Westfield folks will remember Bessie who worked at the Welch office for many years and was a very active member of this church. Emily Taylor died on October 5, 1911, after an illness of many months in which she suffered “inexpressible agonies, which she bore with a patience, which was remarkable”. I quote her obituary, “Even in this world our sister will survive for generations in the excellence and beauty of her personal life.”   [Harvey died in 1864] Children: Jenny, Arthur, Sarah, Mary (Mrs A.J. MacDonald), John
