Andrew Kelsey, Sr. was an early settler in the town of Portland. He and his wife, Elizabeth House Kelsey, were the parents of eight children, three sons and five daughters. One of the sons, Andrew Kelsey, Jr., whose name appears on one of our beautiful stained glass windows, was born on July 18, 1829. His early life was spent on the farm with his father, who taught him to labor and be industrious. In a short time, he owned a good farm of his own and operated it at a profit. When a lad of 15, Andrew, Jr. was converted in the Burch School House on Prospect Rd. He united with a class there which was under the supervision of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Westfield. He became a most faithful Christian attending services whenever possible. For many years he was honored ad an efficient official in the church. Andrew Kelsey, Jr. died August 17, 1903 and was buried in the Farrington Union Cemetery [now known as the Union Cemetery in Westfield] . Only two sisters, Rhoda and Abbie survived him and they continued to live in at the pleasant and comfortable home on East Main Street which they had shared with their brother.
